BYLAWS & LEGAL

Our bylaws are based on governance by the National board; however, each of the 19 NATAS chapters implements its own bylaws based on chapter needs. Regular assessment and recommendation is based on chapter operations. All amendments must be approved by the Board unanimously prior to submission to National for its approval.

CINEMA CLUB

Cinema Club committee is charged with finding and hosting screenings of movies prior to theatrical release. Establish and maintain relationship with movie distributors and communicate regularly with the NATAS administrator when movie title, date and time is secured, so proper notification can be given to Cinema Club members. Volunteers on this committee are Cinema Club members who attend screenings and collect passes. Announcements are made prior to the start of any movie on upcoming screenings and other NATAS events.

AWARDS PLANNING

This committee plans the EMMYョ Awards gala, which includes but is not limited to the host, venue and all advance preparation as well as the event, by assembling a team of volunteers to implement an action plan. It coordinates graphic design for invitations and program information. Details are communicated to the Public Relations committee. EMMYョ Awards Production committee works in tandem with this committee. Write/produce all material for invitation and program, working closely with the Sponsorship Committee to gather necessary copy and ads for the program, communicating to the Awards production group which ads will appear in show. Secure photographers for the event and timely delivery of photos in acceptable format for publicity and website purposes. This committee collaborates on planning and execution of the event while staying within budget guidelines.

AWARDS PRODUCTION

This committee is charged with producing a broadcast-quality show, recorded for historical purposes, made available to all our chapter markets, as well as broadcast via any number of outlets. It communicates with all EMMYョ Awards presenters and follows through so that each person appears as scheduled. A production group is chosen to record the event for archival purposes, which also includes set, sound, recording and anything involved with the actual production/execution of the event.

CERTIFICATION

This is a critical committee for the chapter as it assembles the Call for Entries that is distributed each year on November 1st. It incorporates any changes made at the National level. The committee recommends changes to the submissions and reviews the accuracy of all EMMYョ Award entries. It also offers recommendations for policy change at the national level with regard to the EMMYョ category submission process. All proposed changes are submitted for board approval. A representative attends the national meetings in August each year.

JUDGING

Each year EMMYョ categories are judged and submitted to the other 18 chapters across the country. The Judging Committee ensures judging in a timely and efficient manner by seeking the best representation from the membership qualified to judge each category. It works closely with NATAS administrator to compile a master list of panels to be judged and judging date for each panel. The committee supports the administrator by following up with each panel leader so that judging will be completed by each chapter痴 deadline.

EXPANSION

This committee reaches out to regional members and makes recommendations for and builds programs that can be implemented outside the Atlanta metro area as well as a process for turnkey implementation. With the expansion of regional members, this committee is an essential part of the chapter so that we are addressing the growing membership needs of those living in Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Asheville, North Carolina and outside the metro-Atlanta area. Limited travel is required.

FINANCE

The Finance committee prepares the chapter budget, which is voted upon in two consecutive meetings prior to becoming active September 1st of each year. The chair, usually the Executive Committee Treasurer, submits updates/actuals for board approval. Also, the committee ensures books are in order and that each committee is properly funded to successfully complete its projects for the coming year. Finally, it works with the administrator to submit appropriate paperwork each year for tax purposes.

HISTORIAN

This committee is responsible for maintaining all public information for historical purposes, including, but not limited to all EMMYョ Award winners since the Southeast chapter痴 inception, photographs, context photographs are taken and any honors and scholarships awarded. Recommends best preservation of materials including those written about or any materials generated from NATAS Southeast.

MARKETING & SPONSORSHIP

This committee is charged with bringing sponsors onboard to offset the costs of chapter initiatives and events via cash contributions or in-kind sponsorships. It secures sponsors in advance of the budget process so funds may be allocated appropriately. Funds support educational events/panels for our membership, as well as help offset costs of The Silver Circle and The EMMYョ Awards gala. The committee evaluates marketing and sponsorship material on an ongoing basis and supplies information for updates to the administrator, board and website as appropriate.

MEMBERSHIP & VOLUNTEERS

The membership committee is responsible for recruiting new members and renewing existing members during the recruitment process, beginning in mid-October each year. This committee is the direct outreach for members to potentially serve on the board. Membership applications are reviewed, and the committee works with the administrator to create a base of volunteers to staff various events and recruit to serve on other committees.

MENTOR

This new committee will develop and maintain oversight of new mentoring initiatives for NATAS Southeast members. Develop plans and implementation to present to board for approval.

NATAS SCREENS IT!

NATAS Screens It! committee works to get content from regional members that we can present to NATAS members at typically informal screenings. Foster relationships with local filmmakers while building contacts to host the screenings. This committee handles all the logistics for setting up the screening, working with the administrator to notify the membership of the screening, to executing the event while staying within budget guidelines.

NEWSLETTER

Publications/Newsletter committee gathers relevant information from all chairs for the bi-monthly newsletter, which also includes write-ups of recent program and events, and well as upcoming events, gathering any photographs/images available. The committee coordinates with the Chapter administrator regarding relevant dates to publicize future events. Representatives of the committee attend NATAS events. It is also critical to reach out to station representatives in our footprint to submit relevant articles for the newsletter.

PROGRAMS

The Programs/Events committee is responsible for all planning and execution of events including educational panels and social networking events with the exception of the Silver Circle and EMMYョ Awards Gala. It negotiates with venues and remains within budget guidelines. The committee actively seeks out opportunities that appeal to our membership base, and gathers all details of the event and coordinates publicity. A production group must be obtained to record the event for archival purposes, as well as set, sound, recording and any details of actual production/execution of the event. All materials for publicity to be written, as well as gathering copy for e-blast and website are done by members of this committee. Secure photographer for the event. Find and secure a host for the event as necessary. This committee is responsible for planning and execution of each event while staying within budget guidelines.

PUBLICATIONS & PR

This committee gathers relevant information affecting our chapter and compiles press releases for distribution to media outlets. It communicates publicity needs of other committees, assembling photography and bio requirements, including deadlines to gain the best exposure on chapter initiatives.

SCHOLARSHIP

Each year the Chapter awards scholarships to deserving students. This committee writes requirements for the application and communicates the availability of the scholarship applications by posting to our website and informing the publicity team. Once applications are submitted, the committee assesses student material and awards scholarships. Bios and photos of each winner is to be included in the EMMYョ Awards program and the scholarships are presented during the EMMYョ Awards gala.

SILVER CIRCLE

The Silver Circle honors career excellence as well as exceptional service to the southeast television community. This lifetime achievement honor is awarded in an annual ceremony to the most deserving media professionals. The Silver Circle committee works with the administrator to send out the call for nominations, reviews application forms and presents a slate of applicants for board approval, simultaneously working with the venue and the production team on event planning details. Invitations and program information is coordinated with our graphic designer, and details of the event to be communicated to public relations committee. Inductees are contacted to confirm their information, including bio, photo and tribute video delivered by set deadlines. Communication is a must to insure a smooth flow of events! A production group is designated to record the event for archival purposes. The Committee writes all material for the invitation and program, and gathers all necessary copy and ads. A photographer must be secured for the event. Commitment from a host is also critical. This committee must work well together to collaborate on planning and execution of the event while staying within budget guidelines.

STATION MANAGERS

General Managers from a minimum of one station serve on this committee and provide feedback received from GM and Station Managers in our chapter to the board and recommendations of programs to support the growing needs of the business.

STUDENT AWARDS

The national division of NATAS each year honors excellence of student work through the Student Awards. This committee is in charge of marketing the Student Awards at regional high schools throughout our footprint beginning in the fall of each school year so that entries can be received by national in mid-February. Continual follow-up throughout the fall and winter is required to ensure that the southeast has growing participation from students each year.

STUDENT CONNECTION

This committee plans and executes the Student Connection Day event NATAS Southeast hosts each year. It works with area TV stations and appropriate facilities to host the event, reaching out to students via appropriate connections. The committee assembles panels and educational programs and executes the half-day event. A production crew is also chosen to record this event for historical purposes. This committee also produces material for handouts to students, and creates/distributes materials to appropriate entities to market this event. In executing this event, this committee coordinates all volunteer efforts for staffing this event.

WEBSITE

This committee is responsible for keeping the www.natassoutheast.org website up to date with chapter news and deadlines. It communicates with NATAS administrator so that all appropriate content is posted accurately and in a timely manner, especially time sensitive material including but not limited to EMMYョ Call for Nominations, submissions master posted prior to EMMYョ Certification meeting in February, EMMYョ nominations posted immediately after their announcement in May. This committee recommends and networks to find best applications for an interactive member experience via text, video, online chats or any other digital platform mode. Coordinates production of online exhibition of panels and events as appropriate. This committee also makes recommendations of costs associated for budget approval.
